Born on May 31, 1997 as Elizabeth Eden Harris, she is professionally known as Cupcakke (stylized as cupcake) and is an American rapper, singer and songwriter from Chicago, Illinois. Harris was born in Chicago, but, grew up on King Drive near Parkway Gardens. She was raised by a single mother and spent four years in Chicago’s homeless shelters from the age 7 onwards. She attended school with other known Chicago rappers like Lil Reese and Chief Keef. She had an early start to her music and poetry career due to her involvement with the local church at the age of 10. In the church she used to perform for her local pastors by reciting poetry related to Christianity and faith.
At the age of 13, she came across a fellow church-goer who motivated her to convert her poetry into rap music, and she became obsessed with rap art. She considers 50 Cent, Lil Kim and Da Brat as her early influences.
Harris started her career as a rapper by releasing her content online in late 2012. In the year 2015, two of her songs “Deepthroat” and “Vagina” went viral on video sharing platforms like YouTube and WorldStarHipHop. They were later featured on her debut mixtape, Cum Cake (2016) which reached #23 in Rolling Stone’s Best Rap Albums of 2016 list.
She released her second mixtape S.T.D. (Shelters to Dallas) in 2016 and it was included in Rolling Stone’s June 2016 list of the “Best Rap Albums of 2016 So Far.” She also received attention from music publications such as Complex and The Fader.
After the release fo her mixtapes, Harris released her debut album Audacious in 2016. Her next studio album Queen Elizabeth came out in 2017. In the year 2018, she came out with her third studio album Ephorize. Later on November 9, 2018, CupcakKe released Eden.
Harris is generally noticed for her over-sexualized, uninhibited and comical persona and music, right from her debut. She cultivates a strong fan following online and she calls her fans ‘Slurpers.’ Harris also uses her songs as an advocacy platform for the LGBT rights and to encourage female empowerment.
