Hanna New is an English actress and model. She is renowned for playing a starring role on the TV show Black Sails where she appeared as Eleanor Guthrie, the owner of a saloon in Nassau and as Rosalinda Fox in The Time In Between. She was born in Balham, London and is the youngest of three sisters. New was only four-years-old when she attended a ballet school. She later joined the National Youth Theatre. Her interest in diverse cultures led her to travel to more than 20 countries and she even spent three months in a children’s home in Bolivia in 2003.
To provide funds to support her studies, she decided to model and was scouted by View Management in Madrid and Barcelona. She studied at the Royal Central School of Speech & Drama. She is a fluent speaker of Spanish.
Her career was started by American talent manager Stacey Castro who found her in Barcelona, Spain in the year 2009, during a search for UK casting director Susie Figgis for the role of “Lucrezia Borgia” for the TV series “The Borgias.” New was managed by Castro until 2012, when she joined the cast of the Starz TV show Black Sails. She played the role of Eleanor Guthrie, the daughter of Richard Guthrie, a saloon owner running her father’s crime business in Nassau. The first season of the series premiered on 25 January 2014 and the second season was filmed in South Africa.
New played the role of Queen Leila, Princess Aurora’s mother in the Disney movie Maleficent, which was released in theatres on 30 May 2014.
In the same year, New landed a main role in a reality inspired thriller Under the Bed where a young woman tries to recover from a recent heart-break and a stalker befriends her on social media before proceeding to reside under her bed.
