Born as Selena Marie Gomez on July 22, 1992 in Grand Prairie, Texas, United States, she is an American actress and singer who has won scores of young fans as the feisty star of the Disney TV series Wizards of Waverly Place (2007-2012) and as a pop singer.
Gomez was named after a popular Tejano singer named Selena Quintanilla-Perez who was murdered by a fan in 1995. Selena grew up in suburban Dallas. She tried for a role in PBS children’s TV show Barney & Friends and regularly appeared on the show from 2002 until 2004. The show’s theme song was sung by her and it became an instant hit with the pre-teen audiences and comparisons were drawn between her and Disney’s reigning queen of the time: Miley Cyrus.
Gomez made an entry into the music world as the lead artist of Selena Gomez and the Scene, an electro-pop band that has produced numerous dance hits. Their debut album was Kiss & Tell (2009), and it was followed by A Year Without Rain (2010), When the Sun Goes Down (2011) before it was disbanded in 2012. Gomez then ventured on a solo career with Stars Dance (2013) which featured a seductive song “Come & Get It.” Her next solo album Revival was out in 2015.
Upon entering adulthood Gomez became even more famous due to her romace with the pop singer Justin Bieber. She is also famous for her philanthropic work, most of which is done via UNICEF. She was appointed as a UNICEF goodwill ambassador in 2009. Selena suffered from a disease named Lupus and had to undergo a kidney transplant in the year 2017,
