Born as Melora Diane Hardin on June 20, 1967, she is an American actress and singer, famous for playing the roles of Jan Levinson on NBC’s The Office and Trudy Mon on USA’s Monk.
She was born in Houston,Texas, and is the daughter of acting manager, coach and former actress Diane Hill and actor Jerry Hardin. Her brother is Flock CEO Shawn Hardin. The gorgeous Melora grew up in San Francisco, California after her family moved there when she was only four. She attended the middle and high school in the San Fernando Valley’s Patrick Henry Junior High School and Ulysses S. Grant High School, respectively. She did her graduation from Sarah Lawrence College.
She was cast as Jennifer Parker in Back to the Future (1985) after the actress Claudia Wells left the project during pre-production. Wells had recently shot a TV pilot Off the Rack (1984) which had been picked up by ABC for a six episode run and the filming scheduled would have clashed. Melora didn’t shoot for the movie at all and was let go when Eric Stoltz got replaced by Michael J. Fox as the original Marty McFly because she was deemed to be too tall to be his girlfriend. Wells was then reintroduced as Marty’s girlfriend after her series wasn’t picked up by ABC for the full season.
Melora has played guest roles on Little House on the Prairie (1974), Murder, She Wrote (1984), Matlock (1986), Quantum Leap (1989), Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman (1993), Diagnosis Murder (1993), and The Division (2001).
In recent times, Hardin was seen in a recurring role on Amazon’s critically acclaimed series Transparent for which she received a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award. Hardin is now playing the role of a magazine editor-in-chief Jacqueline Carlyle on Freeform comedy drama The Bold Type that had premiered in July 2017.
