Retired American actress, comedian, and fashion designer Amanda Laura Bynes has appeared in commercials and in plays and rose to prominence as a child star in the late 1990s and early 2000s on the series All That on Nickelodeon and The Amanda Show. From years 2002 to 2006, she played the role of Holly Tyler in the sitcom What I Like About You on The WB and has also acted in films like What a Girl Wants (2003), She’s the Man (2006), Hairspray (2007), Sydney White (2007), and Easy A(2010). She announced an unspecified hiatus from acting in 2010 as she claimed to struggle with her personal problems.


Born on 3 April 1986, in Thousand Oaks, California, she is the youngest of three children of Lynn, a dental assistant, and Richard Bynes, a dentist. Her father is of Lithuanian-Polish descent, and her mother is from an Ashkenazi Jewish family from Toronto. Amanda became fascinated with acting and performing from the tender age of three. She would say her older sister’s lines with her while she acted in plays. It was from then on that her family and friends knew that she would be an idol in the future.

She made her acting debut in 1996 when she auditioned and got the role as a newcomer on All That (1994). Immediately, she became very famous as people loved her acting in skits, especially Ask Ashley, where she played the role of a little girl running an advice column who would get furious every time she read a letter.

In the year 2003, Amanda won two KCA Awards and starred as Daphne, a girl searching for her father in What a Girl Wants (2003) along with Colin Firth and Kelly Preston as her parents. A prodigiously talented comedienne, on April 3, 2004, she won an award for best actress for her role in What a Girl Wants (2003) on the 17th Annual KCA Awards.
