You may think ‘Celibacy before marriage? Come on, no one believes in that today’. And you will be wrong. Though it may sound old-fashioned but there are more and more people who decide to save sex for marriage. Even celebrities, who don’t usually lead such a puritanical lifestyle, decide to say ‘No’ to sex before marriage. Whatever their reasons are, these celebs publicly promised to be celibate before they meet their Mr/Mrs Right.

1. Adriana Lima ‘Sex is for after marriage’

Whenever you think about celibate celebrities, the first person who comes to mind is Adriana Lima. Maybe it’s just too hard to believe that Victoria Secret Angel decided to wait before marriage…Anyway, that’s true. The reason for the decision was first of all based on Adriana’s strict religious views – the Brazilian model is a strict Catholic. However, judging from Adriana’s interviews on sex and virginity, it’s also a matter of respect for her: ‘Sex is for after marriage… [Men] have to respect that this is my choice. If there’s no respect, that means they don’t want me.

2. Lady Gaga ‘It’s OK not to have sex’

Lady Gaga and her scandalous image contrasts sharply with her marriage values and views on celibacy. So her fans were shocked to hear about her attitude to sex back in 2010 ‘I’m single right now and I’ve chosen to be single because I don’t have the time to get to know anybody. So it’s OK not to have sex, it’s OK to get to know people. I’m celibate, celibacy’s fine.’ It didn’t last long though. In 2011 she admitted on ‘getting laid’, so celibacy was the matter of that single Lady Gaga’s period of life. However, her “don’t have sex” voice was heard by thousands of fans and might have influenced their views.

3. Lenny Kravitz ‘I’m going to do it with my wife’

It’s time to get a man into this list and Lenny Kravitz is a good choice. This macho man remained celibate for 4 years and explained it this way: ‘I think sex and intimacy and all that is very important. It’s just that I’m going to do it with my wife. And not everybody else.’ Good for you, Lenny!

4. Taylor Lautner ‘Waiting for the right girl’

World’s Sexiest Man (according to People magazine) is ready to remain celibate until he finds ‘the right girl’. Honestly, there are doubts if the Twilight star is still a virgin or not. But we should hope that the right girl will not keep Taylor waiting for too long.

5. Jessica Simpson ‘Virginity can be cool and sexy’

This blonde with the radiant smile got her purity ring from her father when she was 12 and kept her promise till marriage. She used to say “My virginity is something I stand strong in.” It worked well for her image of “the girl next door”, who apart from being celibate is also a true Christian and doesn’t drink or smoke. In 2002 she married Nick Lacey who totally supported her celibacy: “It’s not always easy,” he said. “But I do respect it. Virginity can be cool and sexy.”

6. Hilary Duff ‘Everybody has slept with each other’

Hilary Duff had specific reasons to keep celibacy before marrying Mike Comrie. She wanted to stand out. In 2006 she stated that everyone was talking about sex and she had no feeling that it was something special for them. “It just seems like everybody has slept with each other – you know what I mean?” So Hilary Duff waited for her special one, and, hopefully, she didn’t regret her decision.

7. Lisa Kudrow ‘I’m saving myself’

Lisa Kudrow, the quirky hippie girl from Friends in real life is quite reasonable and somewhat conservative. She remained celibate until she was 32 years old (!), when she married Michael Stern, her current husband. Lisa was not afraid to admit that she was afraid of sexuality: I don’t know if you’d characterize me as uptight, but I understood what it is to be so afraid of sex, of your sexuality…” However, that main reason for maintaining her celibacy was the fact that she wanted to be a decent wife for her husband. “I have to make myself worthy of the kind of man I had in mind.”

8. Mariah Carey ‘It’s just me, and my feelings.’

Mariah Carie was not a virgin when she met Nick Cannon but she was sure he was the one. So they decided to wait to make that moment special. She said: “We both have similar beliefs, and I just thought that it would be so much more special if we waited until after we were married. And it was, and it still is.” The couple separated in 2014, though.

9. Jordin Sparks ‘It just made perfect sense’

Jordin Sparks was another hot musician who took a vow of celibacy and keeps her word. She is said to still hold her V-card and traveling with grandma to keep her from temptation. No matter if that’s true or not, Jordin stated that she follows her parent’s example: “My parents gave me a purity ring and talked to me about waiting until marriage. It wasn’t forced, it just made perfect sense.”

10.Terrence Howard ‘I don’t believe in premarital sex’

An American actor who was married 4 times doesn’t believe in premarital sex? Weird, but that’s what he says. “If a relationship is built on sexuality, it won’t last long.” Terrence believes that sex causes responsibility, and as long as you don’t have sex you can have as many relationships as you want. It enabled me to date three or four women at the same time, because as long as I wasn’t having sex with them, I could always just walk away.

11. LeeLee Sobieski ‘My virginity was the gift’

An attractive and highly intelligent star, LeeLee lost her virginity with her husband at the age of 26. She remained firm about celibacy before marriage and she had her reasons: ‘It wasn’t for any religious reasons or anything like that, but simply because, to me, my virginity was the most precious gift that I could ever give to a man, and I wanted to be sure I was giving it to the right man.’ Obviously, her husband is a lucky man.

12. Julianne Hough ‘It will strengthen the relationship’

Julianne Hough, the judge of dancing show Dancing With the Stars , is another good girl from Hollywood. She doesn’t drink and smoke and is waiting until marriage. Her choice is based not on religious beliefs, but rather on her own views on relationships; She says: “If you’re just with one person, it’s only for one good reason, and [waiting to have sex] will strengthen that relationship.”

13. Kevin Jonas ‘Sex was not worth the wait’

One of Jonas Brothers, that sweet guy Kevin was actually strict and firm when it came to the celibacy question. He had a purity ring on his finger till 2007, when he married Danielle Deleasa. Probably, Kevin waited too long, and he is one of those who regret his celibacy decision: “Sex was not worth the wait. After we did it, I was kind of like, that’s it?”

14. Colin Farrell ‘I’m a good boy these days’

It’s hard to believe that this bad boy can be celibate…at all. However, after a hard break up, the actor swore off women in 2009. He never proclaimed celibacy as his belief or lifestyle, however in 2015 Colin admits he has not dated for, ooh, four years now. It’s just not happening, what with the work, the kids and my life. Whatever his reasons are, Colin refuses the image of a womanizer.

15. Linsday Lohan ‘Giving up sex to clear her head.’

In 2015 the scandalous redhead decided to join the list of celibate celebrities. The sources say she wants to focus on a healthier life and a pause in dating is a part of the plan. ‘She wants to have an emotional detox.’ Whatever are the reasons, the 28 year old star probably needs some changes to settle down. Will her celibacy last? Time will show.
