Born on June 16, 1995 in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada as Lauren Cherie Southern, she is a Canadian far-right political activist, internet celebrity, YouTuber, writer and documentary film maker. She studied political science at the University of the Fraser Valley, but, finished only two years and left without getting a degree. According to Southern, she dropped out because it was a waste of money to spend on knowledge that she could get on her own.
She is described as alt-right, although she refutes this. In the year 2015, Southern ran as a Libertarian Party candidate in the Canadian federal election. She worked for The Rebel Media until March 2017. She has also written for Spiked, the International Business Times, and The Libertarian Republic. Southern keeps working independently and uploads videos on her YouTube channel.
In July 2018, she undertook a speaking tour of Australia and jokingly asked for the country to be bombed, making a reference to Bible. In August 2018, her attempted speaking tour of New Zealand was a failure. Auckland Council cancelled her booking and denied her usage of its venues to “stir up ethnic or religious tensions.”
Southern is a proponent of the white genocide conspiracy theory. She has called for European countries to refuse refugees from Africa and Asia, stating that immigration would cause white genocide and the media has branded her as a “booster” for the conspiracy at large. In the year 2018, she produced a documentary titled Farmlands about the conspiracy theory related to post- Apartheid farm violence in South Africa. Farmlands features claims of an imminent race war in South Africa, a common rallying point for white nationalists.
