Born on July 1, 1967 as Pamela Denise Anderson in Ladysmith, British Columbia, she is a Canadian-American actress and model. Anderson is renowned for her appearances in Playboy magazine and for her performances in TV series Home Improvement, Baywatch and V.I.P.
Her great-grandfather, Juho Hytiainen was Finnish, a resident of Saarjiarvi and he left the Grand Duchy of Finland (a part of the Russian Empire at the time) for Canada in 1908. He renamed himself to Anderson after arriving in Canada as an immigrant. Anderson received a bit of press coverage immediately upon her birth as a “Centennial Baby”, since she was born on the 100th Anniversary of Canada’s official founding via the Constitution Act, 1867.
According to Anderson, she was sexually abused as a child, something that she revealed in public in 2014. She stated that her molester was a female babysitter who abused her from ages 6 to 10, and later she was raped by a 25-year-old man when she was only 12, and gang-raped by her boyfriend and six of his friends when she was 14. Anderson attended the Highland Secondary School in Comox, British Columbia. During high school, she played on the volleyball team. She graduated in the year 1985. In 1988, Anderson relocated to Vancouver and started working as a fitness instructor.
Her first brush with fame was after she was selected in the February 1990 Playmate of the Month for Playboy magazine. Anderson went on to make various appearances on the magazine’s cover and held the record of most Playboy covers by anybody. She became more prominent in 1991 when she appeared as a recurring character, Lisa, on the award-winning ABC sitcom Home Improvement’s first two seasons. She was internationally recognized for her starring role as C.J. Parker in the action drama television show Baywatch, which consolidated her standing as a sex symbol.
Anderson has also been featured in films like Raw Justice (1994), Barb Wire (1996) and Blonde and Blonder (2008). She was inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame in 2006.
Anderson is a well known as an activist for the animal rights movement and has conducted various campaigns against the commercial fur industry and promoting veganism via the animal rights organization People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA).
