Born on 23 October 1986 in London, UK, Emilia Clarke is an English actress. After she did a guest-spot on the BBC drama series Doctors, Game of Thrones happens to be her first major TV role.
She plays the role of Daenerys Targaryen in the show. She took over from Tazim Merchant, who had played the role in the unaired pilot episode. Merchant’s exit was declared on 29 April 2010 and Clarke’s casting was announced on 21 May 2010. She was past of the initial cast and remains a part of the second, third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth seasons.
For her performance in the third season, Clarke was nominated for the 2013 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. Although she didn’t win but was nominated for the second time in 2015 for the fifth season. She lost to Uzo Aduba from Orange Is The New Black. In the year 2016, she was nominated for the third time and lost to Dame Maggie Smith for her role of Violet Crawley on Downton Abbey.
Clarke played the role of Sarah Connor in the Terminator reboot film. In a coincidence, her co-cast member Lena Headey had also played the role in the TV series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Clarke was seen on the cover of the March 2014 Spring Style issue of the Wall Street Journal’s bimonthly magazine, WSJ. The issue has a detailed interview where Clarke talks about her casting and work on Game of Thrones. Clarke reprised her Game of Thrones character in Game of Thrones: A Telltale Games Series, debuting in “The Sword in the Darkness.”
Clarke played the lead role in the film Me Before You with Sam Claffin and Jenna Colman (2016).
