She gave vocals for the group which basically performed dance-pop music regarding independence and empowerment, themes that were to be later seen in her own solo works. She was 14, when Bedingfield sang vocals on Origins’ Refined Intricacy (Steelyard Records).
Bedingfield studied psychology at the University of Greenwich for a year before leaving to focus o singing and songwriting. Initially, she recorded demos in the garages of her friends who had recording studios, and she presented those to recording companies. Bedingfield was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for the title song “Unwritten”, and at the 2005 and 2006 Brit Awards, she was nominated for Best British Female Artist.
