Born as Paula Lane on 17 April 1986 she is an English actress. Lane comes from Hebden Bridge near Halifax, England. She attended Wardle Academy and later Huddersfield Technical College. She was 19-years-old when Lane was accepted to be trained at the reputed Central School of Speech and Drama, London. She graduated in 2008 with a 1st class honours degree in acting. After she finished the drama school, Lane immediately landed a role in the ITV’s 1960s themed drama Heartbeat which happened to be her TV debut. She played the role of a teacher named Wendy Kelshaw in an episode “School of Hard Knocks.”
She debuted as a professional actress in Heartbeat in 2009 and has since appeared in Going Postal by Terry Pratchett for Sky, The Royal and Doctors. Lane was also cast in a short film War Wounds alongside Stephen Mangan.
Lane’s career defining role was Kylie Platt in the ITV soap opera Coronation Street from 2010 to 2016. After she played the character for six years, Lane left the show to focus on raising her two children and on managing the acting school run by her and her husband, located in her home town of Hebden Bridge. Lane has been seen in various stage productions. She played the role of Rachel in Be More Martyn at Southwark Playhouse, Lily in The Bengal Lily at Manchester Royal Exchange and Lauren in a UK tour of Kinky Boots.
Lane got married to her long-term partner Tom Shaw in May 2014 at Leeds Cathedral. On 5 June 2014, she revealed that she was expecting her first child. On 31 December 2014, she gave birth to a son, Arthur. On 28 July 2016, Lane announced that she had given birth to a daughter named Penny Grace. Tom has also acted in Coronation Street in 2017 and 2018 on a recurring basis.
