Born as Kaori Housako on September 23, 1988, she is a Japanese professional wrestler and actress, presently signed to WWE on the NXT brand under the ring name Kairi Sane, where she is an ex NXT Women’s Champion.
Housako has a rich sports background in yachting, participating in intercollegiate and national competitions, and also participated in world championships with aspirations of participating in the Olympics. After she graduated from Hosei University with a bachelor’s degree in Japanese literature, she started a career in acting.
She also worked for a while in theatre and one of her performances where she played the role of a professional wrestling villain, had Fuka, the general manager of the World Wonder Ring Stardom in audiences. Housako soon got invited to one of their events. She was in love with professional wrestling in no time and loved the possibility of merging acting with sports and decided to become a professional wrestler.
Under her earlier ring name Kairi Hojo, she debuted as professional wrestler in January 2012 for the World Wonder Ring Stardom promotion, and over the course of next five years, she went on to become a one-time World of Stardom Champion, and also won the 2015 5* Star GP and the 2016 Goddesses of Stardom Tag League. Housako exited Stardom in June 2017, after she landed a three-year deal with WWE. In September, she won the inaugural Mae Young Classic Tournament. She further won the NXT Women’s Championship in less than a year at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn 4.
