Born as Alexandra Elizabeth “Ally” Sheedy on June 13, 1962, she is an American actress and author. The sexy Sheedy was born in New York City and has two siblings brother Patrick and sister Meghan. Her mother Charlotte is a writer and press agent who was involved in women’s and civil rights movements, and her father John J. Sheedy Jr. is a Manhattan advertising executive. Her mother is Jewish whereas her father is of Irish Catholic origins. Her maternal grandmother came from Odessa, Ukraine. Her parents had divorced in the year 1971.
Sheedy studied at the Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School in New York city, from where she graduated in 1980. She began dancing with the American Ballet Theatre at age six and planned to make dancing her full-time career. However, she had to give up dancing in favor of acting full time. Later she started learning acting with acting teacher Harold Guskin. She was 12 years of age when she wrote a book, She Was Nice To Mice. The book was published by McGraw Hill Education and proved to be a best seller. On June 19, 1975, she appeared in a game show To Tell The Truth!
After debuting in films in the year 1983 film Bad Boys, she went on to become famous as one of the Brat Pack group of actors in films such as The Breakfast Club (1985), and St Elmo’s Fire (1985). She also worked in War Games (1983), and Short Circuit (1986). For her appearance in Lisa Cholodenko’s High Art in the year 1998, she won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Female Lead.
