Ajak Deng, born on December 7, 1989, has seen life through many crests and troughs. Despite being deprived of everything that she wished for, she still held her head high in the pages of life’s dairies. She moved to Melbourne, Australia with her family after becoming refugees for her motherland Kenya, East Africa.
She along with her 7 siblings settled in Melbourne at the age of 11 after the permission from the Aussie government due to her mother’s death because of malaria. The sufferings and struggles kept trolling the entire life of Deng. She started her career as a fashion model. She did an advertisement for United Colors of Benetton as her first international modelling jobs. She was also an important part of few outstanding fashion shows among which are included the Valentino, Lavin, Givenchi, Maison Martin Margiela, Dior, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Oscar de la Renta, Alexander Wang and Marc by Marc Jacobs.
Apart from being a fashion model, she also tried her hand in acting. She did make herself apart from other models who struggled to rise up from drawback of her skin color as their discrimination point. She achieved fame in acting after being a part of a few movies that depicted her success stories. Few of the included her popular names as Sophie, LaQuan Smith and Valentino from movies A Story of Discovery (2016), Fall/Winter 2019/2020 at NYFW and Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2019 at Paris Fashion Week.
She also auditioned for the new James Bond movie. But unfortunately, she was not offered the role she expected for. The best part was the reason she was provided with for the elimination. Deng confessed to the reporters that “I was tested for one of the Bond girls for the new James Bond movie, but….they told me I was too pretty for the role.” She further added, “But it was so good just to have that experience.” In 2016, Deng then finally quit modelling.
