Born on April 18, 1976 as Melissa Joan Hart in Smithtown, New York, she is an American actress. Hart’s parents had four more children after Melissa, Trisha, Elizabeth, Brian and Emily who are all actors. Her parents divorced in early 1990s and she relocated with her mother and siblings to the New York City. In the year 1994, her mother married TV executive Leslie Gilliams.
Hart was named “Melissa” after the Allman Brothers song of the same name. She chose Catherine as her confirmation name during her eighth grade, but, she doesn’t use it professionally. Hart started working at four years of age when she made a TV commercial for a bathtub doll named Splashy. She had made 25 commercials before she turned five. Her early television appearances included a minor role I a miniseries Kane & Abel (1985), a guest-starring role in The Equalizer (1986) and a starring role alongside Katherine Helmond in the Emmy Award winning television film Christmas Snow!
In the year 1991, Hart grabbed the starring role on the Nickelodeon series titled Clarissa Explains It All, a comedy film about a teenage girl in daily life situations, which was a success during its four-year run. The show got her nominated for four consecutive Young Artist Award nominations and she won three of those. Her role in the show also got her an opportunity t o star in the FMV video game Nickelodeon’s Director’s Lab as a tour guide who takes the player around a film studio. She bagged the titular role for the 1996 film Sabrina The Teenage Witch and later a TV series of the same name which had a seven season run on ABC and The WB. In the year 2010, Hart made a comeback in a new weekly TV series, starring with Joey Lawrence in an ABC Family sitcom Melissa & Joey. Her role in the series was of a woman who hires Lawrence as a nanny to take care of her incarcerated sister’s children. In the season two, she directed an episode as well.
On July 19, 2003, Hart got married to musician Mark Wilkerson, after they had met at the Kentucky Derby in May 2002. They are resident of Westport, Connecticut.
