Have you been trying to lose weight? Tried dozens of diets but none of them seem to be working? Resolved to only eat healthy, gluten-free, fat-free, organic foods but still not losing weight? We’ve all been there. It sounds like you might be the victim of diet mistakes.
In our search for the perfect diet we tend to overlook some simple things that are standing in our way to achieving the body of our dreams.
Lets go through a list and see what dieting mistakes we might be making.

1. Skipping meals

A lot of people decide to skip breakfast altogether due to a lack of time in the morning or opt for having one on the go. Research has proven that people who don’t eat in the morning tend to eat more during the day. Overcompensating for a skipped meal is a bad idea, as you’ll feel hungrier and will consume more calories than you actually need. Skipping a meal in hopes of saving up calories you’re actually making your body crave more than it needs and therefore overeating later, and that definitely won’t help you lose weight, you might actually gain some.
Having a coffee and a muffin on the go might seem like a way out for those who don’t want to cook in the morning. You might think :“Well, at least i had some food, that’s better than skipping meals”. But we forget that drinks contain lots of calories too and pastries, no matter how big or small are packed with calories. For example, a favourite autumn drink at Starbuck’s – pumpkin spice latte – is 300 calories. And a blueberry muffin from the same place contains shocking 500 calories! No wonder we’re not losing weight if we’re having half our daily calories just as a quick snack in the morning.
So keep that in mind next time you think of skipping breakfast or having one on the go.

2. Portion control

If you’re a person who tends to eat in cafes and restaurants a lot or order takeout on a regular basis you might be used to the portion sizes that those establishments offer. However, that doesn’t mean those potions are normal. Restaurants tend to have large portions, and being used to that you might be eating large portions of food at home without even realizing it. And this includes not only fatty foods, but also salads. You might think that having a “healthy” salad in a restaurant is better than having a burger, but when it comes to calories that is not always true. The so called “healthy” green salads in restaurants often have toppings like cheese or croutons or heavy creamy dressings that surpass a portion of fries in terms of calories. In order to avoid confusion try ordering a salad with dressing on the side, that way you can decide how much dressing you need and control your calorie intake.

3. Drinking your calories

It’s a good idea to just stay away from alcohol when you’re on a diet. You might think it’s just a drink “what’s the harm in drinking 1 glass of wine or 1 cocktail?” Alcohol contains more calories per gram than proteins or even carbohydrates. So just think about how many empty calories you’re consuming when drinking. Plus, alcohol won’t make you feel full, so there’s a chance you’ll drink more that you could ever eat. If you’ve been good at staying on a diet prior to going out for drinks you might find yourself getting drunk quicker, and when you’re drunk you won’t care if you have a bunch of snacks that you would otherwise not have. Alcohol will weaken your resolve for staying on a diet and you might just find yourself thinking that you’ll start again tomorrow. Which will inevitably be followed by some hangover food like pizza or burgers the next day. So really, alcohol is your worst enemy when you’re on a diet.

4. Wolfing down your food

In this day and age everyone’s busy and rushing to go somewhere all the time, which leads to us eating on the go, or wolfing down our food really quickly in between or other daily activities. It’s rare that we get a chance to actually sit down for a long meal. By eating quickly we tend to overeat. Our bodies need time to understand that we’ve had enough food, it doesn’t happen immediately. We challenge ourselves by trying to fit in many activities and chores into our daily schedule, but try and set aside time for food. Next time you have a meal, perhaps set a timer for 20 minutes and make your meal last that long. Take smaller bites, chew longer, try to enjoy every single bite and properly taste your food. You’ll find that you’ll feel full after 20 minutes and you’ll eat a smaller portion.

5. Don’t eat in front of the TV

We’ve been conditioned by the media that it’s always a good idea to keep snacks close by when watching a movie, be it at home or in the cinema. The problem is, that when you’re watching a movie or a video on your laptop you focus more on what’s happening on screen than on how much food you’re having. How many times have you found yourself having a huge bag of chips or popcorn that you think will last you the whole film, only to realize it’s empty and you’re not even half way into the movie? And you have absolutely no recollection of eating the whole thing. Next time, instead of going for a snack, opt for a cup of tea, or a glass of water. It’ll give you smth to do and will keep you hydrated without any extra calories.

Divorces can get quite ugly, particularly when there isn’t a prenup. It’s easy to make mistakes at the very beginning of the divorce process, especially if you’re dealing with someone who is highly manipulative, abusive, or just plain irrational. Even if you are divorcing a reasonable person, it’s tough to think clearly and make the right initial decisions. Most people are so angry, upset, or anxious at the end of their marriage that they’re not thinking logically about what they should do to protect themselves or their children from an unfair settlement.

In the past, the prevailing emotions during a divorce were usually sadness and regret. Today, anger is the dominant emotion: people are angry at their spouse, their spouse’s parents, at their spouse’s new partners, etc. All this anger translates into words and deeds that make the divorce process more costly, stressful, frustrating, lengthy, and an all-out war. It doesn’t have to be that way, even if you are divorcing the most irrational of humans. Reading this list, however, might give you a head start on having the smoothest divorce possible. Below are the most common mistakes men make in divorce.
1. Using your children as pawns

Threatening to limit or deny visitation is a powerful threat, and it can terrify a parent who loves his child(ren). Often, parents who are the primary caregivers, but who lack the financial resources, feel that they must use this threat to gain sufficient financial support.

As painful as these threats are, do not respond in kind. Don’t issue threats of your own. Instead, recognize that in most cases, the truth will come out. If you’ve been a good, responsible parent, your spouse likely cannot deny you a chance to see your kids on a regular basis. More to the point, the court won’t allow it in most instances.
2. Thinking romance first, divorce second

The most common factor that turns a normal divorce into an abnormally contentious one is bringing another woman into the mix. The situation is already potentially volatile, and all it takes is the mention that you have a new lover for your spouse to become infuriated.

There are several reasons you may want to announce your new relationship-revenge, one being to show her that someone finds you attractive and you’ve even found happiness. Try to keep a new relationship out of the conversations with your spouse and especially your children. The best decision is to wait until the divorce is concluded before you engage in a new relationship.
3. Allowing your spouse to convince you not to hire an attorney

If your spouse has hired a lawyer, you need to hire one quickly. If you don’t, you are an amateur playing against professionals. One underhand tactic is for a spouse’s attorney to offer to represent both parties to save time and money. Not only is it unethical, but it also creates a conflict of interest.

The process is designed to be adversarial, and there is no way a lawyer can fairly represent you both. The odds are that your spouse has something to hide or something she wants, and she knows that if you hire a lawyer it will be more difficult to achieve that goal.
4. Rubbing salt in the wounds

If your goal is to avoid a court battle and the high costs that go with it, then you want to avoid any accusations of personality flaws. Be aware of your spouse’s sensitivities and avoid inflaming them. Compromise is the essence of divorce negotiations, and if you say and do things to encourage your spouse to dig in and be inflexible, you’re asking for a war.

No matter how much you despise your spouse; no matter how many ways you feel you’ve been wronged, don’t make a bad situation worse by identifying your spouse’s vulnerabilities when trying to reach a settlement. Always try to negotiate before you litigate.
5. Serving your spouse with divorce papers in embarrassing places

Having an officer of the law serve your spouse at home or business should be reserved for cases where they refuse to file an appearance or accept service of process, or where great conflict exists between the two parties.

There is nothing more embarrassing than having a police officer serve you with papers at work, and nothing more unnerving than hearing the doorbell ring at 2 a.m. and seeing a policeman at the door (and having your neighbors see him as well).

I know some people are all about making mistakes over and over and over because it makes them so relatable or cool or whatever (trust: forgetting to send a thank-you note doesn’t make you cool — it makes you a jerk), but I will continue to be a proponent of doing things the easy way — yes, the easy way! Because most of the time avoiding dumb mistakes is much easier than cleaning up the mess a mistake creates. So in that vein, check out these 20 first-date mistakes to avoid:

Related: Dear Wendy: His Wife Won’t Leave Us Alone

1.Discussing what you discovered when you pre-date Googled each other.
2.Asking for a kiss. (If you have to ask, it ruins the mood. Just go for it — the worst that will happen is you’ll get the hand.)
3.Begging for a kiss.
4.Proposing.
5.Checking your phone.
6.Letting the other person pay if you’re the one who did the asking. Going dutch is not an appropriate first-date activity.
7.Quoting your therapist.
8.Showing too many pictures of your cats.
9.Wearing anything you’d wear to the beach if you aren’t going to the beach.
10.Bringing uninvited friends along.

Related: The Six Things You Need For a Happy, Long-Term Relationship

11.Announcing it on Facebook.
12.Suggesting that your date is a “tease.”
13.Admitting that you’re crazy, even in a “joking” way.
14.Giving too many compliments (make three your limit).
15.Interviewing your date for the position of your significant other.
16.Discussing all your dietary quirks. No one cares.
17.Getting too drunk (again, three is a good limit for just about everything, including cocktails).
18.Forgetting to mention you have kids.
19.Talking about sex if you don’t plan on having it on the first date.
20.Name-dropping anyone for the sake of impressing your date.
